I Don’t Need New Year’s Resolutions. This Is Why.

In Lifestyle, News, Spirituality on January 4, 2016 at 11:44

This post is an adapted excerpt from our upcoming book, ‘Now That I Am in My Thirties’. I would appreciate your constructive feedback. Stay tuned for the launch!

20160104_103233-1

Years ago, I found myself writing my New Year’s Resolutions. I was twenty-seven, newlywed, trying to position a boutique communications agency. I felt it was the perfect time to put in order all the areas in my life. I wrote a long and explicit list. After reading it over and over for a full year, I realized I was not only planning for a year, I was planning for a decade therefore I didn’t write any resolutions for the following year, and decided to stick to my decade-long plan.

2012 was different, because I was turning thirty. Revising my previous resolutions with the intention of updating them, not to balance them out, I understood I had not only planned for one or two years or a decade, I had planned for a lifetime.

I did have a lot of goals, but surprisingly, they were not exceptionally ambitious, and they didn’t have a deadline. It was not a checklist or a bucket list. Fortunately, most of them were life changing, but within reach: Maintenance for my soul as they were all toward a simpler, better and happier life as a grown up woman.

Therefore, for my thirtieth birthday, the only amendment done was consolidating all my goals, into one: Endeavor myself fully and devote my life to what matters most to me now.

I knew I was not the only one looking at life differently during this time. Friends from all around the world were invited to share their own experiences getting closer to thirty and being 30+/up to thirty-nine. This blog was set up. Research had to be done. Expert Contributors were approached. I never imagined such positive and massive response. Yet a book was not on anybody’s list; it emerged as part of this inspiring collective breakthrough.

This is not a travel blog, but it is a real life road trip “story”. We write nonfiction, even though some of the topics and changes we experience in our thirties sounded like fiction for us not long ago. It’s not biographical even though many true-life stories are told here, including mine and yours. Now that I am a thirtysomething year old, my goal is for us to use this blog and upcoming book as a reference to understand and embrace better what we are going through. I hope you find it somehow informational but I am not trying to persuade you in any wayit’s not a procedure manualit’s just a pure narrative: Personal experiences running our life all the way to our thirties and beyond!

2016 is in our hands now.

Let’s make it the year that we BECOME our BEST selves.

I am in.

Hope you are too.

Who loves you tons?

Laura

P. S.: What about you? What are your New Year’s Resolutions? We’d love to know and support you all the way!

2015 in Review

In Contributors, News on December 30, 2015 at 09:04

Here it is!

One of my favorite reports of the year!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for “Now That I Am in My Thirties”!

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 4,500 times in 2015. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Thanks for your readership and ongoing support!

Happy 2016!

Always yours,

Laura

Who Else is Looking Forward to The 2nd Half of 2014?

In Career, Family, Lifestyle, Relationships on July 7, 2014 at 08:47
Do you think I have enough planners?

Do you think I have enough planners?

I am!

I love to plan. Although sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan, I like to at least try. I am planning for a productive and fulfilling rest of 2014.

As I mentioned on “2014: Midyear Recap” this has been a good year overall, but I want to get the max out of the rest of it!

This is a preview of what is coming in the second half of the year:

*July:

-The FIFA World Cup finals. Who is your favorite?

-Writing and blogging. Blogging and writing.

-No traveling.

-Phase 2 of P90XBring It!

-Being productive while spending some time home alone, cheering from the distance for my husband who will be attending his most important career event of the year!

*August:

-My birthday monthI am turning 32!

-Our 5th wedding anniversary

May God bless our marriage so that we are as inseparable as these grains of sand. Amen.

-Still crossing my fingers to make it to my lovely friends’ weddings in the Dominican Republic!

-Phase 3 of P90X.

*September:

-Volunteering at TEDxManagua

Can't wait to attend and volunteer at my first TEDx event!

Can’t wait to attend and volunteer at my first TEDx event!

-Also crossing my fingers for that other project!

*October

-Attending Oprah’s The Life You Want Tour!

-Attending my cousin’s wedding in Santo Domingo

Please note that both of these events are on the same date in two different countries! Not sure which one might need to be postponed!

*November

-My mom’s birthday month, but I have no plans yetany ideas?

*December

-Spending Christmas with the in-lawsItaly bound!

One of the many reasons why I love spending Christmas with the in-laws!

As you can see, I am looking forward to fun, inspiring and creative months ahead!

What are your plans? I’d love to know!

I wish you health, happiness and many blessings always!

Let’s keep in touch and see how this year unfolds!

With love,

Laura

Back for Good!

In Career, Family, Lifestyle, News, Quotes, Relationships on February 12, 2014 at 07:42

Today is a great day. It feels like New Year’s Day even though it’s already the second week of February. I’ll tell you why.

Blogging more is one of my 2014 resolutions. As I am afraid that you may have noticed, it’s not happening…yet.

2013 ended in good standing. Quiet get-together at home with friends. Bubbles, fireworks, grapes, wishful hugs and kisses.

Us...The Sgrois!

Us…The Sgrois on NYE!

2014 started with the most contrasting mix of productivity and lethargy. Excited about being devoted to an amazing professional project indeed, even strength training every day. On the other hand, not working on “Now That I Am in My Thirties” at all. Not writing, not blogging, not doing research, not reading. Nothing at all. Everything was about work again. There I was, breaking my own rules, not making the effort to look for the sought-after balance that I had promised myself.

Mid-January, fun came in all different forms: family and friends joined us for the most special corporate extravaganza: My husband’s company anniversary and annual beach week. What a blast! Perfect dose of excitement and exhaustion!

Mombacho Family in Maderas Beach, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua

Mombacho Family in Maderas Beach, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua…You get a high five if you find me on this picture!

And then everybody left and I was officially back to work. In the meantime, I never stopped thinking about this blog and about the book. Fighting to convince myself that I was not hiding due to the fact that I have not finished the book. Wondering if you even noticed. Wishing you were not missing me. Fantasizing about how to surprise you the next time.

I didn’t know where to start. I added new quotes to our Inspiration section and posted new articles on our social networks. Without trying, I managed to disable the Live Twitter Feed on the blog and haven’t been able to fix it. I was afraid of making grammar, spelling and technical mistakes. Feeling scared about losing credibility in front of you. I was letting fear take control of my persona, and every day passing, it was just getting worse.

Anyway, you kept visiting, following, liking and commenting on our pages. I can’t thank you enough for that. Thank you for hanging in there. Thanks to YOU I realized it’s not fair to hide and stop sharing our gifts, even though we know they are not perfect. So I thank you.

Now you know why this is my first blog post of the year. How do you like it?

Do you relate to it?

What about you?

How have you been? What have you done lately?

Can’t wait to hear from you! Let’s get in touch!

With gratitude and love,

Laura
