MIAMI ART WEEK 2025: Beyond Art Basel, The Moments That Stayed With Me
Miami Art Week 2025 was a celebration of diversity, community and innovation. As a devoted art enthusiast (not a critic or journalist), I explored the fairs and events for the love of art, sharing my experiences through this new En Los Ta Event Coverage Programming. Here’s a personal journey through the week’s most inspiring moments.
Design Miami 2025: Craftsmanship, Creativity, and Style
I began my week at Design Miami, the global forum for collectible design, celebrating its 21st anniversary under the theme Make. Believe. by Glenn Adamson. The fair explored the design avant-garde across eras, honoring visionaries of the past, present, and future.
Even before stepping in, the terrace ambiance hinted at what was to come: mixed environments, imagination, and material poetry. My focus naturally gravitated to organic materials such as woods, fibers, and sculptural lighting.
Favorite designer: Mathieu Lehanneur, the designer poet. His I AM collection of monogrammed chairs and the striking Twisted Mirror were unforgettable. Interesting fact: he also designed the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch.
Red Dot / Spectrum Miami – Opening Night
Next, I visited Red Dot x Spectrum Miami at Mana Wynwood, a juried contemporary art fair known for its energy and diversity. Opening night was vibrant, colorful, and full of life. It brought together the next generation of artistic creativity and innovation. Over 1,000 artists showcased their work across 280+ international exhibitors at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center, attracting tens of thousands of collectors, art enthusiasts, and industry leaders. Together, Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami have become must-attend events for collectors, galleries, and art lovers seeking the world’s most progressive contemporary art portfolios.
While wandering the aisles with my friend Mariel Corona, we met the proud mother of our favorite artist of the fair, Angela Fabbri, in a serendipitous moment of friendliness. Art Week is full of these surprises.
The Library of Us by Es Devlin at the Faena Hotel
The next day, new friends Kassiani Cheirogeorgou and Natalia Piedra joined Mariel and I to go to The Library of Us, a 50-foot-wide rotating triangular bookshelf containing 2500 books including the texts that have influenced Es Devlin’s thinking, life and practice.This free, public experience was breathtaking.
Soft voices read beautiful curated passages in English, Spanish, and Creole, color-coded shelves, sunshine, ocean breeze, gentle rotation, and strangers at ease created an atmosphere of reflection. I felt proud to be an author, and, even better, to be a reader.
Art Miami 2025: Reflection and Meaning
At Art Miami, the city’s longest-running and second most-attended art fair globally, reflection was the theme. Known for presenting significant 20th- and 21st-century art, the fair remains a must-visit during Miami Art Week.
Standout discovery: Kair Art, whose work deeply resonated with my journey as a mother.
PINTA Miami: Latin American Art in the Spotlight
Next came PINTA Miami, where Latin American art takes center stage. I loved seeing messages in Spanish, experiencing the cultural pulse, and exploring a mix of Botero classics, eco-conscious pieces, and tech-driven innovation.
Favorite piece: Aurora Molina’s The Cabinet of the Absurd, a textile work of cotton yarn embroidered on cotton fabric.
Molina describes it as:
“This embroidery transforms current socio-political theater into a timeless tapestry—a scene both satirical and elegiac.”
I was also thrilled to see work by Dominican artist Laura Castro, a proud moment highlighting talent from my country.
Chicas Guapas Foundation x El Ojo del Arte — Art & Wellness Gathering
During Miami Art Week 2025, Chicas Guapas Foundation and El Ojo del Arte hosted an intimate Art & Wellness Gathering highlighting emerging artist Carolina Martínez Pedemonte. The rooftop experience brought together art, mindfulness, and community in a thoughtfully curated morning.
The program featured a grounding yoga session led by Agustina Caminos, alongside a curated matcha and coffee bar by @cortaditocoffeehouse, high-performance wear by @winfitnesswear.usa, and face cryotherapy by @thekovmiami. Thoughtful gifts, exclusive surprises, and a white dress code enhanced the experience.
At the heart of the gathering was Carolina’s evocative artwork, inviting embodied creativity and mindful connection. The Art & Wellness Gathering reflected Miami Art Week’s evolving landscape: where art extends beyond exhibition walls and into lived, shared experiences to support emerging artists and conscious brands.
Art Basel Night at Aguamarina Elementary
To finish Miami Art Week for me, I attended the Art Basel night at Aguamarina Elementary, a mix of art, community, music, and creative magic, deeply meaningful.
Thank you Nata, Luisa, Rober, all teachers and staff, and Belly Fish Sushi for such a nice, artsy, and tasty evening! I had a great time! Art was beautiful, food was delicious, and the live music was amazing. Thanks to all for the hard work to make this happen!
Art Basel Miami 2025 – Conversation with Viviana Suárez (VISU Design)
To understand Art Basel from a design perspective, I interviewed Viviana Suárez, founder of VISU Design, a passionate designer with over ten years of experience, dedicated to transforming spaces into refined, harmonious environments.
LS: How would you describe the overall atmosphere of Miami during Art Basel this year?
VS: Miami once again dressed itself in art, design, and artistic innovation. The event continues to attract not only more galleries and artists, but also tourists who want to experience this vibrant world full of color, creativity, and now also technology.
LS: What do you notice about the evolution and growth of Art Basel in Miami Beach and its satellite events?
VS: Its growth is more evident every year. Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Miami, and everything that happens around them gain more presence in every corner of the city. This year, art could be felt everywhere: events, building lobbies, restaurants, and even on the street. I love seeing how art unites cultures, expresses ideas, reflects identity, and so much more.
LS: What facts stood out to you most about the scale of the event?
VS: 280 galleries from 43 countries participated. That number alone reveals the global significance of the event.
LS: Was there anything new or different that surprised you this year?
VS: Yes, the new space for digital art and immersive experiences. It shows that technological advancement is present in every area of our lives, even in art. It’s exciting to see where the creative future is heading.
LS: How did you see the Latin American presence at this edition?
VS: I loved seeing so many Latin American artists as part of the exhibition. Once again, Miami shows itself as a city that integrates cultures and acts as a gateway to the world for all of them.
LS: If you had to summarize what Art Basel left this year, what would you say?
VS: Once again, we can say that art and design come together, explore new paths, awaken feelings, and create something truly magical.

Final Thoughts
Miami Art Week 2025 reminded me that art isn’t something we simply observe, it’s something we live.
It lives in chance encounters at a crowded bar, in a whispered sentence read aloud by a stranger, in a textile thread that suddenly mirrors your own country story.
Beyond the fairs and the traffic, what stayed with me was the human layer: artists creating from truth, communities gathering with intention, and a city that, once a year, allows creativity to spill into every corner. Miami doesn’t just host Art Week; it becomes a living, breathing canvas.
If you plan it well, arrive early, and stay open, Art Week can be surprisingly gentle. You’ll find moments of stillness inside the noise, meaning inside the colors, and connection where you least expect it.
And maybe that’s the real takeaway for me:
Living is an art, healing is an art, and, here, on the floor, with his back to the camera, is my masterpiece.

Design Miami 2025: Artesanía, creatividad y estilo
Comencé mi semana en Design Miami, el foro global de diseño coleccionable, que celebró su 21º aniversario bajo el tema Make. Believe., curado por Glenn Adamson. La feria exploró la vanguardia del diseño a través de distintas épocas, honrando a visionarios del pasado, el presente y el futuro.
Incluso antes de entrar, el ambiente de la terraza anticipaba lo que vendría: entornos mixtos, imaginación y poesía material. Mi atención se dirigió naturalmente hacia los materiales orgánicos, como maderas, fibras y luminarias escultóricas.
Diseñador favorito: Mathieu Lehanneur, el diseñador poeta. Su colección I AM de sillas con monogramas y el impactante Twisted Mirror fueron inolvidables. Dato interesante: también fue el diseñador de la antorcha olímpica de París 2024.
Red Dot / Spectrum Miami – Noche de apertura
Luego visité Red Dot x Spectrum Miami en Mana Wynwood, una feria de arte contemporáneo curada por jurado, conocida por su energía y diversidad. La noche de apertura fue vibrante, colorida y llena de vida. Reunió a la nueva generación de creatividad e innovación artística.
Más de 1,000 artistas presentaron su trabajo a través de 280+ expositores internacionales en el Mana Wynwood Convention Center, atrayendo a decenas de miles de coleccionistas, amantes del arte y líderes de la industria. En conjunto, Spectrum Miami y Red Dot Miami se han consolidado como eventos imperdibles para coleccionistas, galerías y quienes buscan los portafolios más progresivos del arte contemporáneo.
Mientras recorría los pasillos con mi amiga Mariel Corona, vivimos uno de esos momentos serendípicos tan propios de Art Week: conocimos a la orgullosa madre de nuestra artista favorita de la feria, Angela Fabbri. Art Week está llena de estas sorpresas.
The Library of Us de Es Devlin en el Faena Hotel
Al día siguiente, nuevas amigas —Kassiani Cheirogeorgou y Natalia Piedra— se unieron a Mariel y a mí para visitar The Library of Us, una estantería triangular giratoria de 15 metros de ancho que alberga 2,500 libros, incluyendo textos que han influido en el pensamiento, la vida y la práctica de Es Devlin. Esta experiencia gratuita y abierta al público fue simplemente impresionante.
Voces suaves leían fragmentos cuidadosamente seleccionados en inglés, español y criollo. Estanterías codificadas por color, sol, brisa marina, rotación pausada y desconocidos en calma creaban una atmósfera de reflexión. Me sentí orgullosa de ser autora y, aún más, de ser lectora.
Art Miami 2025: Reflexión y significado
En Art Miami, la feria de arte más antigua de la ciudad y la segunda más concurrida del mundo, el tema fue la reflexión. Reconocida por presentar obras significativas del siglo XX y XXI, sigue siendo una parada obligatoria durante Miami Art Week.
Descubrimiento destacado: Kair Art, cuya obra resonó profundamente con mi propio recorrido como madre.
PINTA Miami: El arte latinoamericano en primer plano
Luego llegó PINTA Miami, donde el arte latinoamericano ocupa el centro del escenario. Disfruté leer mensajes en español, sentir el pulso cultural y explorar una mezcla de clásicos de Botero, piezas eco-conscientes e innovación tecnológica.
Obra favorita: The Cabinet of the Absurd de Aurora Molina, una obra textil realizada con hilo de algodón bordado sobre tela de algodón.
Molina la describe así:
“Este bordado transforma el teatro sociopolítico actual en un tapiz atemporal: una escena a la vez satírica y elegíaca.”
También me emocionó ver obra de la artista dominicana Laura Castro, un momento de orgullo que destaca el talento de mi país.
Chicas Guapas Foundation x El Ojo del Arte — Art & Wellness Gathering
Durante Miami Art Week 2025, Chicas Guapas Foundation y El Ojo del Arte organizaron un íntimo Art & Wellness Gathering, destacando a la artista emergente Carolina Martínez Pedemonte. La experiencia en la azotea reunió arte, mindfulness y comunidad en una mañana cuidadosamente curada.
El programa incluyó una clase de yoga guiada por Agustina Caminos, junto a un bar de matcha y café de @cortaditocoffeehouse, indumentaria de alto rendimiento de @winfitnesswear.usa y crioterapia facial de @thekovmiami. Regalos especiales, sorpresas exclusivas y un dress code en blanco completaron la experiencia.

Para cerrar mi Miami Art Week, asistí a la noche de Art Basel en Aguamarina Elementary, una mezcla profundamente significativa de arte, comunidad, música y magia creativa.

VS: Cada año su crecimiento es más evidente. Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Miami y todo lo que se genera alrededor gana más presencia en cada rincón de la ciudad. Este año se respiraba arte en todas partes: eventos, lobbies, restaurantes e incluso en la calle. Me encanta ver cómo el arte une culturas, expresa ideas, refleja identidad y mucho más.
LS: ¿Qué datos te parecieron más reveladores sobre la magnitud del evento?
VS: Participaron 280 galerías de 43 países. Ese número por sí solo revela la importancia global del evento.
LS: ¿Hubo algo nuevo o distinto que te sorprendiera este año?
VS: Sí, el nuevo espacio de arte digital y experiencias inmersivas. Demuestra que el avance tecnológico está presente en todas las áreas de nuestra vida, incluso en el arte. Es emocionante ver hacia dónde se mueve el futuro creativo.
LS: ¿Cómo viste la presencia latinoamericana en esta edición?
VS: Me encantó ver muchos artistas latinoamericanos formando parte de la exposición. Una vez más, Miami se muestra como una ciudad que integra culturas y actúa como una puerta al mundo para todos ellos.
LS: Si tuvieras que resumir lo que dejó este Art Basel, ¿qué dirías?
VS: Un año más, podemos decir que el arte y el diseño se unen, exploran nuevos caminos, despiertan sentimientos y crean algo verdaderamente mágico.

Reflexiones finales
Miami Art Week 2025 me recordó que el arte no es algo que simplemente observamos, sino algo que vivimos. Vive en encuentros casuales en un bar lleno, en una frase susurrada por un desconocido, en un hilo textil que de pronto refleja la historia de tu propio país.
Más allá de las ferias y el tráfico, lo que permanece es la capa humana: artistas creando desde la verdad, comunidades reuniéndose con intención y una ciudad que, una vez al año, permite que la creatividad se derrame por cada rincón. Miami no solo alberga Art Week; se convierte en un lienzo vivo.
Si lo planificas bien, llegas temprano y mantienes el corazón abierto, Art Week puede ser sorprendentemente amable. Encontrarás momentos de calma dentro del ruido, significado dentro de los colores y conexión donde menos lo esperas.
